The right carpet pad can give you a comfortable feel underfoot, and enhance the appearance and long-term quality of your carpet. Carpet installed over Leggett & Platt’s carpet pads will last longer and retain its quality appearance for a longer period of time. While the continuous quality of carpet is evident, the comfort benefits of padding are something that can be felt. See and feel the benefits of Leggett & Platt carpet pads beneath your feet.
HOW TO SELECT THE CARPET PAD THAT'S BEST FOR YOUR CARPET
With so many carpet varieties available, it stands to reason there would be many different carpet padding types to choose from as well. Unfortunately, given the “out of sight, out of mind” nature of carpet padding, the choice is often overlooked. The salesperson may assume you want the basic pad purchased in bulk to cut costs, but you should always ask to see the other options. A premium pad absorbs footsteps and furniture impact that could cause premature wear on a carpet much better than a standard pad. Let the pad take the abuse so your new carpet doesn’t.
Choosing the wrong pad can have negative consequences, such as voiding the carpet warranty. Most carpets are designed to be soft to the touch, but by having the properly selected padding underneath, your carpet will be much more comfortable. Look for a product engineered to flex and not bottom out with every step. Be wary of pads that are too firm as well, as this will minimize the pad's effectiveness at making the carpet look better, longer.
With the new carpet padding technologies available today, density is not always the most important consideration. When shopping, the best technique for identifying the ideal comfort level is to literally stand or walk on a sample. It is also recommended you place a carpet sample on top of different cushions and remove your shoes so you can get a better experience of how the padding will feel when installed. It is far too common for consumers to simply select the carpeting and then rely on the carpet retailer to tell them which padding to install.
Another factor to consider during the carpet pad purchase is energy efficiency. Carpet pad can provide extra insulation benefits on top of those provided by the carpet itself. If you have an in-floor heating system, you will need a pad with the lowest insulation value, or R-value. Rubber carpet padding is by far the best for these applications. If insulation properties are preferred, look for a premium padding with the highest insulation properties.
